This is from CNN:
In protest of what it calls a religion “of the devil,” a nondenominational church in Gainesville, Florida, plans to host an “International Burn a Quran Day” on the ninth anniversary of the September 11, 2001, attacks.
The Dove World Outreach Center says it is hosting the event to remember 9/11 victims and take a stand against Islam. With promotions on its website and Facebook page, it invites Christians to burn the Muslim holy book at the church from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Now, wasn’t the 9/11 attacksĀ performed by terrorist? Criminals who used the Islam as a pretext and excuse to justify their acts? I’m not a Muslim, but as far as I know the Quran is not endorsing terrorism. Some want to turn the clock back, and not get in step of what the other cultures have accomplished (after all, the Quran is an old book, but so is the Bible), but terrorism? I don’t think so.
America is proud to have freedom of speech and religion. In that sense, Pastor Terry Jones of the DWOC can believe and say anything he wants (well almost anything, there are always limits for everything, but that is not the point).
However, the book-burning event reminds me of Nazi-Germany of the 1930s, not exactly a model for freedom and democracy.
Does it look like religion of joy, when he plans a book-burning event? It looks more like his is a religion of hate, something that he claims the Islam is.
He said he wants the world to get rid of religious extremists. I suggest he starts closer to home.
Not to mention, that this endangers Americas mission in Afghanistan, which is just to get rid of the terrorist who use religious extremism as an excuse for their acts. Understandably General David Petraeus is worried about the consequences of the book-burning plans.
Pastor Terry Jones is a classic example fitting in this blog.
